Breathing Exercise

Yes you can finally breathe stress away ... the amazing ancient art of breathing has been revealed at last!

Do you currently do any breathing exercise? Have you tried breathing techniques but failed to feel any stress relief at all? Does breathing actually work?

You will see sites promoting breathing and those ridiculing it. Who is right and who is wrong?

Any breathing exercise or breathing technique can aid you in your quest for stress relief. After all …if you don’t breathe… you don’t survive.

But before you do any breathing exercise you must know this first ...

Remember being told .. "take a deep breath"

Wondered why you should, how does this help you when you are stressed?

Well, sayings have been distorted over the years. As have their meanings and directions…

The saying should be "breathe deeply, take a breath" … meaning relax, slow your breath and calm down.

Breathing is essential to life, it is also essential for stress relief. When you breathe in you breathe in energy. Breathing out, allows you to release stress.

So…

You must breathe correctly or you will never release stress or gain energy.

Most adults shallow breathe. We pant like a dog, rather than breathe deeply and relaxed. How has this occurred, you may be wondering? How should we breathe?

Breathing correctly will help you relax, become calm and super-charge your energy. But more on that soon ... first some background information you must know.

What Types of Breathing are there?

Good and bad … easy isn’t it. But what is good breathing? Breathing deeply is better for you overall. It creates relaxation, increases energy and promotes health.

Most of us have a poor or shallow breathing cycle. Where we breathe in less energy and release less stress than we should.

Can breathing become a problem? If breathing becomes too shallow, or too erratic then problems can arise. However, most poor breathing, at extreme levels comes about because of health complaints. These should be assessed to see how you can improve, if possible.

Are wanting someone to blame?

... so who taught you to breathe so poorly?

As we change from a child to an adult, life changes, as does information…
  • a child laughs out loud and cries to let go stress … immediately.
  • an adult laughs politely and holds onto stress … after all, we shouldn’t display our emotions … especially in public.

Children are told to 'stop crying … it’s not that bad' ... 'don’t laugh too loud .. you’ll annoy someone' ... 'suck it up … show no fear'.

You got it from home, school and the sporting field. You learnt to control your breathing… shorten it, make it tense and also shallow.

You have learnt therefore to have less energy and more stress - through having a poor breathing cycle.

Great! ... Can you now un-learn to breathe?

Bad grammar aside, any breathing exercise can be broken. What you learn can always be changed.

You have learnt to breathe … shallow, short and tense … you can unlearn to breathe … deep, relaxed and calm.

Breathing is a learned response. Changing your breathing is just the same. You just need to learn to breathe better, through a breathing exercise. Just like a fitness program… just easier.

There are many breathing exercises you can do...

  • Diaphragm Breathing

    – also known as Belly Breathing, is a matter of breathing from the abdomen - with slow, deep regular breathing. It is an easy way to relax and take tension away from the body and mind.

  • Conscious Breathing

    – this breathing exercise teaches you to breathe deeper and more relaxed. With regular practice, breathing can improve and help reduce stress levels creating anxiety and panic attacks.

    - Very fast and lasting relief from stress can be achieved by breathing correctly. As simple as it sounds, breathing properly can provide almost instant stress relief and faithful practice of the technique can bring significant positive changes throughout the body.

One site I recommend for conscious breathing techniques is here ... for free instructions and information visit here.

  • Yoga Breathing

    – this is complete breathing exercise using not just the diaphragm, it also utilizes the collar bones and ribs. There are many types of Yoga breathing that can drop stress levels within seconds at times.

    - Yoga breathing can be difficult, if you add some simple Yoga hand postures, you can make the techniques simple and easy. Yoga breathing is designed to produce a better breathing cycle as well as improving your health and vitality.

    - You can learn to Yoga breathe like an Eastern Monk in minutes, simply and easily.

  • Mudra Breathing

    – also known as Meditative Breathing is an ancient breathing exercise to slow the breathing and quieting the mind. There are hand positions which aid the process and create a deeper breathing and a deeper state of mind.

    - Mudra breathing is the simplest and most beneficial of all breathing exercises. It is an ancient Eastern technique for overall health and well-being. Stress levels melt away with ease, health and energy increase instantly. Daily practice of a few minutes of Mudra breathing creates a life of minimal stress and great health .

  • All breathing exercises are great to use. Each of you will have a different approach to life and your approach to stress relief. So whichever technique you identify with is the best for you.

No matter which approach you like, breathing should be an essential part to stress relief.

But wait ... what does "Good" breathing do?

Like I said earlier, breathing in … breathes in energy; breathing out …breathes out stress.

Holding your breath, lifting heavy objects or while under some pressure or tension. Then the diaphragm tightens and restricts your breathing.

Shallow and tense breathing affects the entire body through oxygen and carbon dioxide levels. It also affects the energy channels in the body (meridians) which can create poor health, fatigue and stress related illnesses

Meridians are energy channels that help you to regulate and stimulate your organs. Breathing helps these channels stay clear and unblocked. Creating good health and higher energy levels.

Breathing in a relaxed fashion reduces overall tension in the body and mind. "Good" breathing helps to reduce tension, improve health and increase energy.

Notice after a sigh, how tension seems to melt away.

Sighing is a letting go of tension and stress. Breathing that is deep and relaxed releases tension in each breath, sighing then is less frequent.

    Just Breathe…

Breathing in a deep, relaxed and easy fashion is ideal for both stress relief and health promotion. It is a simple technique to learn, it is also essential in today’s hectic world.

Breathe in ... feel your energy sky-rocket.

Breathe out ... let go all the stress and pressures of life.

It is as simple as that ….

    Just breathe!

Any breathing exercise will reduce your stress and increase your energy levels. Using any breathing technique each and every day is an ideal way to start your life of being stress free and full of energy.
