Is your breathing shallow? Do you catch yourself missing a breath now and then? Are you more tired than you wish?These are common occurrences today as the breathing processes are placed under more and more stress. Remember, you breathe in energy and you breathe out stress. So in todays hectic paced world stresses are increasing and breathing is becoming more shallow. Don't worry you are in good company. After all you learnt this from our parents, teachers, sports coaches and friends. You have been told to ‘suck it up’ from your coaches and to try harder. You have been told to ‘stop crying …it’s not that bad’ by your parents.
You lift heavy objects, you get under stress, and you have upsets and upheavals. All of these teach you to shallow breathe. Breathing is a learned response to everything around you…physically and emotionally.

Shallow breathing tires you out, reduces your stamina and endurance. Not just in exercise, but your working day feels longer and harder. You have less energy to play with your children and to do other family activities.

There are many techniques to make you breathe deeper …. counting the breath … holding parts of the breath … changing where you breathe from.
All are good at removing stress. The big problem is they don’t change your resting breathing rate. It is your resting breathing rate that causes most problems.
Changing your breathing when you are doing a particular technique; will only help while you are performing the technique. Once you stop the benefits mostly stop. Practice them enough and the benefits last longer. You need to do them frequently and often to change your breathing more permanently.
Breathing shallow can be changed simply by using techniques that aim to change the resting breathing rate. Once your resting breathing rate changes, you enhance it by breathing normally. Habit makes it permanent.
