The Calm Mind Part 6
Welcome to lesson 6
Is your “Mind” in Your Control?
We now come to the premier techniques for harnessing your mind's power to shape your life and move you towards your dreams and aspirations. To be able to remove stress and reprogram your mind to repel stress forever.
We will teach you two techniques in this lesson.
Affirmations
Creative Visualization.
In our last lesson you learned how to use the quiet and calm level of mind to solve problems and release their stresses. You are now ready for the next step. You will learn how to tap into your mind to shape your reality.
Perhaps you're looking to be more positive, to full of energy and low in stress, to improve your happiness or to end a bad habit. You will learn how you can use affirmations and creative visualization to reprogram your mind and reshape your attitudes and behavior.
It all starts with your imagination
Imagination is more powerful than will power. Imagination is the ability to create an idea, a vision or an image of something new. In creative visualization, you use the power of imagination to create a mental image of what you want to accomplish or obtain.
Your goal could be on any level - physical emotional mental spiritual. You might imagine yourself being happy, content, healthy and full of energy. You can even visualize for material things.
No matter what your goal, the technique is basically the same. You imagine the desired outcome in your mind. At the same time, you repeat a positive affirmation about the goal.
Affirmations must be in the present tense. Imagination is most powerful if our mind believes something has already happened.
"Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will."~ George Bernard Shaw
The Evidence
Research in many different countries and cultures have shown that visualization is a highly effective tool. It can create vast improvements in sporting ability, public speaking and in the arts.
Emile Coue used affirmations with patients to help with recovery. He found that using affirmations in patients sped their recovery far greater than using medication alone. His famous affirmation, which is still used today is…
“day by day, in every way, I am getting better and better”
Technique 1 - Affirmations
Affirmations are positive statements you repeat to yourself while in a meditative or alpha level of mind. Affirmations are always done in the present tense, as if the action has already taken place.
Affirmations are far more powerful when used in a calm mind state.
Why? Because when you reach the calm level of mind, your subconscious is open to suggestion at a far greater level and rate of imprinting.
Some affirmations you can use are:
- I am stress free and full of energy
- I will always maintain a perfectly healthy body and mind.
- Positive thoughts, positive emotions, bring me all the benefits and advantages I desire.
- My mind is calm, relaxed and able to deal with all problems with ease.
You can also create your own affirmations: Try saying...
- I have a perfect …
- I have great opportunities for …
- Every day, I am …
Just place words to follow to suit your desires.
Before you start creating your affirmation, note these important rules:
- Affirmations must be in the present tense. Your subconscious mind does not think in terms of past, present or future. Making the affirmation as an “I want” or tells the subconscious this will happen in the future. All of us know there is no tomorrow – only today.
- You must believe that the goal is within your reach. The saying “fake it until you make it” is true. You do need to be realistic though. If you believe you can’t get to a goal, drop the level back a bit and just obtain small goals first. Go for the bigger goals with time as you see changes.
As you achieve your goals your confidence in yourself and in the power of affirmations grows. This allows you to tackle greater and greater issues.
Just state the suggestion to yourself without passion as a thing that is already so. Something that is true is obvious and undeniable – you don’t need to convince yourself or anyone that it will happen – it already has.
- Affirmations must always be done as a positive statement. The mind doesn’t listen to negatives. If you “I don’t” or “I won’t” etc, your mind ignores the negative and only hears “I”.
A statement of “I don’t want to be stressed” or “I don’t want to be negative” become “I want to be stressed” and “I want to be negative”.
Remember, keep it positive and keep it in the present tense. “I am full of energy and I have zero stress”, “I am a powerful and positive person”.
Technique 2 - Creative Visualization
Seeing a reality is more powerful than saying it is real. More powerful still is combining the two.
Visualizing the result you want while in the calm mind state lends power to the process. Some of you will be less able to visualize. Don’t worry there is a simple way to visualize.
Just like affirmations your visualization should be done in the "present tense".
You want to visualize yourself already having achieved the desire and feel the moment as if it is happening now.
In other words, feel the sense of joy in already achieving your desire, rather than the sense of wanting or the sense of desire for an event.
When you visualize try to view your vision at a 20 degree angle. Just simply look up at a slight angle. The angle of 20 degrees is where you access the alpha brain wave level. This is the level for accelerated learning, creativity and patterning on the mind.
Enhancing Your Creative Visualization
If you have difficulty visualizing use a technique called streaming.
You mentally describe what it is that you're seeing. Make the description as detailed as possible.
For example if you're trying to visualize yourself being stress free at work, mentally tell yourself, "I'm walking through your work place full of energy and full of happiness, I see my work mates being happy, my desk is free of clutter, the air is warm, the office smells and feels relaxed ….”
As you describe the image in detail you will find that the image also takes on more detail. This, in turn, gives you more things to mentally describe. One feeds into the other and your imagined image becomes more and more vivid.
You don’t need to actually see an image for your mind to accept it as true. The most common dominant sense is the sense of sight. This is why for most people the process of visualization works well.
Some people, however, may have a dominant sense of touch or hearing or smell. These people may have difficulty "visualizing" but may be able to accurately imagine sounds, smells or feelings. For these people it's important to incorporate these senses into your "mental experience".
How to increase the impact of creative visualization:
- Make the image as realistic as possible. Incorporate movement, make the screen three-dimensional. See colors and shapes. Use the streaming technique if you have difficulty visualizing.
- Feel emotions associated with the image - joy, happiness, a sense of fulfillment. How would you be feeling if you had what you wanted? Imagine and explore this feeling. A thought without emotions has no energy and no force behind it. It is like running a car on empty. Feel the emotions of having what you want.
- Bring in your other senses. Feel the wind blowing on your face; imagine the scents involved with the images. Feel texture and temperature. The more senses you involve, the more real the image is to your subconscious mind.
How You Can Practice
You can combine your affirmations with your visualization to create a more powerful effect. As you're imagining your goal, simply repeat your affirmation mentally, as many times as you feel necessary.
Don't be discouraged if you do not get immediate results. It does take a little time for the mind to accept things. But it will accept it.
Visualization is a powerful process when done at the Calm Mind level. Five minutes a day of practice can undo years of negative programming. Furthermore, once you get your first success your belief system gets strengthened and this will allow you to manifest your next goal a little quicker.
Masters who practice regularly find that they do not even have to go to a meditative level of mind and spend time repeatedly visualizing their goals. A mere conscious thought of their desire can set the gears in motion and create desires to direct them towards their goal.
Just remember, it only takes a few minutes each day to gain the desires you want. These techniques can be used at home or work, and in anytime of the day.
Using these techniques before bed can add an extra dimension. As when you sleep your subconscious mind processes more effectively. Going to sleep with the goal or desire in place can accelerate the process. It also aids a more restful and relaxing sleep pattern.
To Conclude...
I hope you enjoyed the past 6 meditative lessons. Don’t feel you need to master all these techniques at once.
Just use the breathing technique until you feel your breathing slow and deepen after a few breaths. You should also feel more relaxed and calm once finished.
Once this occurs (which is different for everyone), then add the Mudra techniques. As your mind becomes still, use the quiet techniques.
After you feel your mind is easily relaxed and calmed. Add the visualization and affirmation techniques.
The techniques you have learnt work well; it just takes a little time for your mind to calm and quieter.
I have used these techniques and many others in my practice and in my life your years. They are simple and easy to do, there are also many other extensions to these you can use to enhance your mind further.
Meditation should and is easy, if you use simple techniques that work. Life is complicated enough without adding techniques to complicate things further.
