Negative Effects of Stress

Is stress all that bad ... after all some thrive in stressful situations ... do you?

Negative effects of stress? Surely some stress is good for you. Isn't stress just part of life?

Stress may be part of life ... it still has bad effects on you and your health.

And ... Why do some suffer from negative effects of stress, yet others miss these altogether?

You can have the same stress presented to you, yet one person thrives and another collapses. The stress is the same but the effects are different.

Negative effects of stress happen for a reason ... or three

  1. levels of stress are too high
  2. we cope poorly with stress
  3. our health is lower than it should be.

You react negatively to stress if any one or combination of the above occur. If you have poor health, high stress and deal with stress poorly ... you are an accident waiting to happen.

Stresses can be positive for you, if you are healthy ... physically and mentally.

If you have poor health and cope poorly with stress, the negative effects of stress are much greater.

The negative effects of stress include ...

  1. Unpleasant emotional feelings

--- tension, feelings of inadequacy, depression, anger, despair and others.

Stress can make us feel completely alone and to the point of breaking. Yet stress can be a minor event for others.

  2. Mountain out of a mole hill

--- problems around us can suddenly seem larger than they are. We become worried about our health, become obsessive, jealous, suspicious and fearful. Worries become insurmountable to the point where we can react to the extremes. Yet again the problem appears minor to others.

  3. Relationship problems

--- stress can create negative feelings of being pressured or trapped. We become irritable; have feelings of being lonely, fears of intimacy, struggle for control and others.

Our perception changes with stress and commonly we look for a cause of our distress. Our spouses, family, workplace can become the focus of our stress. We can chuck in our jobs or our families because we believe them to be at fault.

What actually is at fault is our perception of our day to day life. Stress creates a negative perception which can create disastrous effects easily.

These types of distortions are the common causes of divorce, mid-life crises and major career upheavals ... stress is the #1 killer ... not just physically, but with relationships.

  4. Fatigue

--- stress can create energy lows which can lead to other problems. Stress drives the body to excess which will create a fatigue situation ... causing physical and mental fatigue.

  5. Psycho-somatic ailments

--- these arise from stress. Psychological factors are the largest and most common cause of all ailments. Research believes between 50% and 80% of all complaints treated have a psychological cause.

If stress is high, these types of complaints become common. Emotionally driven health problems will become physical complaints with time. Then suddenly you have two problems ... or more.

  6. Performance lowers

--- high stress almost always will affect performance levels in all activities. School, work or sport performance levels drop, which leads to higher chances of injuries or accidents.

Stresses alter our ability to prepare, analyze, react and cope. Performance in all tasks changes ... for the worse.

  7. Fears and Phobias

--- stress allows us to have fears, especially irrational fears, which makes us avoid certain activities. Fear causes us to avoid challenging tasks such as drama, debates, harder classes, public speaking and others.

We are less likely to approach our bosses for a promotion, less likely to push ourselves forward in sport, our classes or workplaces.

    Stress creates fear ...false...evidence...appearing...real.

Fears and phobias are not based on fact. They are based on imaginary beliefs that mostly don't happen. This leads us into avoidance of possible pleasurable activities.

There are many other negative effects of stress, too many to name in fact. All of the negative effects of stress will lead into other ill-effects of stress.

Physical, mental and physiological changes that occur from stress are the result of the negative effects. If you change how you deal with stress, then you can change your body and mind.

Learning simple and fast ways to turn the negative effects of stress into positive effects is the key. Techniques should be simple to do and fast in action. Then and only then can we prevent and remove the negative effects of stress.
