Physiological Effects of Stress

If this process occurs ... you are only a few feet from the grave ... be warned!

The Physiological Effects of Stress - your silent killer!

Did you actually know that stress is killing you slowly? Did you realise that the day to day stress that is around you is going to put you closer to the grave today and tomorrow?

You should know that you can do something to stop this.

Stress is the number one killer ... the physiological changes are the changes that create your organs to eventually fail. And they fail years before they should ... unless you remove stress now!

Stress around you changes you body as soon as it starts. The physiological effects of stress follow a simple step-by-step process. Once stress happens a...

Chain reaction occurs

This chain reaction starts with your brain and leads to all other functions in your body. The more severe the stress, the longer it is there, the quicker and bigger the reaction.

Warning: Be very aware of this process ...

The body follows a simple process of change when stress affects you...

  • stress activates your brain which triggers the pituitary gland and sympathetic nervous system
    • this creates changes in your adrenal gland, your heart rate goes up, as does blood pressure

  • heart rates rise which can go form 70-90 beats per minute to 200 per minute
    • blood to the muscles and vital organs (lungs and kidneys) increases

  • you breathe faster and more shallow which increases oxygen flow around the body

  • your liver releases sugars to provide energy during the stressful situation, blood sugars drop at the end causing fatigue.

    • Stomach and bowel activity slows as the sympathetic nervous system kicks in. This can cause stomach pain, constipation or diarrhea

  • your pupils dilate and more light enters your eyes

  • Goosebumps appear and hair appears to stand up, this is due once again to the sympathetic nervous system.

  • Your adrenal glands produce adrenalin which increases heart rate, blood pressure, blood flow to muscles and blood sugars. Blood sugar is one of your sources of energy

    • Your Pituitary then causes the adrenal glands to release another hormone which regulate and control levels of minerals and sugars in the body.

  • tightness in muscles occurs to get you ready to move and be coordinated. Prolonged stress can cause muscle aches.

This is what happens to your body physiologically, which creates the physical effects of stress. As each system is affected by stress, symptoms develop. Minor or major reactions occur depending on the level of stress and how well your body and mind cope with stress.

The physiological effects of stress creates the emotional, physical and energy changes you feel. Your body will always react to stress and change will always happen.

How can you change these physiological effects of stress ... before it is too late?

Stress creates this chain reaction. Once started or once stress is there, it happens.

The best way to stop this is to have no stress ... mostly impossible. Life is stressful; it is just the levels of stress that change.

The other way is to change the reaction is to alter the physiology of the body ...

If you are more resistant to stress, have a better general health then the physiological effects of stress still happen. They just happen at lower levels.

Lower levels of the physiological reactions change stress from bad to good. The anxiety turns to excitement ... the rapid pulse rate and blood pressure become a state of alertness.

If you learn to deal with stress better, become healthier, then most stress is easy to deal with. Stress is not the problem ... your ability to cope with it is.

The physiological effects of stress will always happen. Making these effects minor rather than severe is the key to a stress free life. A body more resistant to stress will have a better quality and quantity of life...
