In reality it is actually common ... not normal. Normality means what is correct and in balance. Your workplace should be motivating, energetic, calm but stimulating ... but it probably isn't.

Workplace stress management is essential. Work stresses are getting bigger and bigger. The most effective ways to remove and prevent stress should be simple and quick to do.

Otherwise you won't do them!

Workplace stress management is not a difficult task to undertake. Most of you expect that stress relief at work takes a lot of time to do. Time that is very precious at work, because of all the deadlines and pressures.

Stress relief at work should take no time away from your work and take no time away from your home life. Your working life is stressful, stress relief should remove stress not add to it.

Your workplace is high in stress; you have many forms of stress in your chosen jobs:

  • deadlines to make
  • performance levels to meet
  • pressures from the boss
  • relationships with co-workers
  • the work environment


The stress at work is amplified if your ability to deal with stress is less than it should be. If your health is not good, the effects of stress increase as well. Stress is all around you and also within you.




So ... what is the solution?

Workplace stress management has traditionally taught you to use techniques that take time to implement. They are techniques that only deal with stress once it is there. They are not ideal preventative techniques.

What is ideal Workplace stress management? Simple ... techniques should not only help you deal with stress. It should also improve your health and energy levels. If you are healthy and full of energy, stresses become less significant.

An example of this is when you have had some fantastic news. You are very excited, as high as a kite. No matter what you face in the day, it feels as if it doesn’t affect you.


You are able to deal with all stresses … simply and easily.


Having stress relief techniques that promote a high energy and health level, creates this situation. Stress is easier to remove and prevent. The pressures at work reduce. Performance, concentration, attention to detail, creativeness and other positive aspects of work improve.




And now ... what is commonly taught ...

Traditional workplace stress management techniques ... can still be utilized. After all they are very effective at dealing with stress. They teach you to cope better and change your views at work. These methods include:
  • living a more balanced life

    • exercise, a good diet, avoiding difficulties at home and work, relaxing, talking to friends and family about your stresses.


  • managing time and scheduling

    • making a ‘to-do’ list, prioritizing tasks, learning to say ‘no’, taking breaks.


  • accepting support from others

    • building relationships with work mates, share thoughts, stresses and feelings


  • organizing and simplifying your life

    • plan your day, delegate tasks, organize home and workspace better.


  • nurturing yourself

    • use relaxation techniques, sleep well, have a massage, avoid alcohol and coffee.


  • take a break

    • have breaks in the day, start a hobby, and have more holidays.


  • keep a journal

    • write your stresses down, work out what stresses you and how to cope better.


Now don’t get me wrong, all these techniques are great at dealing with stress. The big problem is that they take time away from work or home life.

Time is scarce today; having a break in the day will usually mean work will pile up even higher. Taking time to write a journal takes time and you tend to be unaware of the main stresses around you anyway. You have so many stresses in your life; a journal can become a novel easily.

Men struggle to express their feelings, so discussing or sharing feelings with others at work is difficult. Most of your work mates are stressed also. They probably don’t want to hear your stresses as well.

Workplace stress management can be easy. It should be easy to do at home or work. It should train your body and mind to deal with stress now and for the future. It should build up a resistance to stress at work and home. It should take little or no time away from home or work activities.


Combining different stress management techniques gives an overall boost to your coping abilities. Stress relief at work is best dealt with by being healthier, more energized and less stressed all day and every day.

Workplace stress management can be simple, easy and fast to do. Best of all it can improve your health, increase work performance and satisfaction, remove and prevent all your stress … at work and home.
